Young Maryland Native
Publishes First Book Of Poetry And Short Stories

Silver Spring, Maryland—It’s hard to believe that there could be a book of poetry that’s entertaining and profound without being so convoluted that only a handful of fervent readers of poetry could enjoy, much less understand it. Hard to believe, but its here. Twenty-three year old Maryland native, E. Tara Scurry has pooled together her creativity into an enthralling compilation of both short stories and poetry. Each chapter is uniquely captivating as it leads you on different paths of imagination, emotion, and cultural commentary.

This exquisite compilation is truly like a box of chocolates. It looks promising, as if it were wrapped in lace so you expect to find something tasty and delicious inside. In Storm of Roses, you are guaranteed to find more than you bargained for. Some pieces are soft and creamy, some are crunchy, others are hard to chew, but all are delicious and addicting.

This anticipated first compilation of poetry and short stories made its debut February 10th 2006. The poems in Storm of Roses are poignant, bold and oftentimes unexpected. There is definitely something wonderful and appealing for everyone inside of this beautifully encased literary debut. Since the last newsletter, Scurry shared pieces from Storm of Roses at two events opened to the public. By special request she read from her book at a private affair in Maryland. Scurry also counseled high school students as a career role model for a college fair sponsored by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored people at Vermont Ave. Baptist Church in Washington, D.C.

"Storm of Roses is a dream come true," says Scurry. "I’ve shared my poetry for years with family, friends and at the occasional open-mic event. Two things always happened. Numerous people would come up to me afterwards and tell me I should write a book. Many would assume I was published and ask, ‘where can I buy your book?” Now I can say ‘I have! And here it is!’ There’s a rich and irresistible freedom and permanency that comes from the written word. Creating introspection, causing people to challenge the world around them or simply making someone laugh when they need it is what drives me. ”

What’s in store for E. Tara in the next couple of months? First things first: starting on March 3rd, Scurry will be recording at BLUE HOUSE PRODUCTIONS to translate Storm of Roses into an audio book. Its bonus features will include commentary on selected poems as well as other extra’s to be announced. Additionally in March, her presence has been requested at Cordozo senior high school in Washington, DC to speak with seniors about creative writing. The first newsworthy event of April is the premier Storm of Roses book signing. Sponsored by the Century Limited Inc. Book Club in Washington D.C., this event was original scheduled for April 4th, but has moved to April 2nd at 5:00pm.
